Addiction

September 3, 2009

jericho mushroom cloudAbout two weeks ago I signed up for NetFlix and have been watching movies and TV shows every night, even though I have cable. Well, I’ve found my new favorite show (which is now cancelled). It’s called Jericho.

Basically, the story is a bunch of nuclear bombs explode across America at pretty much the exact same time. The story is told through the eyes of the citizens of Jericho, KS. They’re basically trapped in town with no information, no electricity and a limited supply of food. The whole story reminds me a lot of the basic elements of LOST. Anyway, check it out if you get a chance. Below is a link to the pilot.

True Life

lease-600x163

I have some friends that like goals. They write down accomplishments like running a marathon, getting a dream job or maintaining a certain lifestyle. Sometimes they actually do them, most times they don’t.  Needless to say, I’ve never really been big on goals. I don’t think it’s because I’m afraid of failing, but it’s because I lose interest in most anything after a while.

I realized though, that when you only have an air mattress and an empty apartment to come home to every night, creating goals at least gives me some ideas on how to pass the time. So i made a list. It’s in no specific order, just some things I want to try.

  1. Create different tonics that compliment Gilbey’s Gin and Svedka Vodka.
  2. Paint the walls of my apartment
  3. Have Bs&Gs and Subway with @amadeus3ooo, @coreyaldritt and @rladue at least once a year.
  4. Write an eBook on something related to my career.
  5. Learn how to make pie.
  6. Plant a garden
  7. Watch “Gone with the Wind”

What would be on your list?

Change

August 25, 2009

In the past four months I’ve gone through a lot of change. Whether it was living with friends  (Thanks @thatguynick, @shellyleonard and @rladue), graduating from Iowa State University with a B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communications, or spending the summer working with social media at a state commodity group – it’s all finally slowed down and my life as a gypsy has come to an end.

This last week my internship transitioned into a full time position where I work with both print and online media – it’s my dream job. The job also meant that it was time to finally get a place of my own, so last week I signed a lease for an apartment. It’s the first time I’ve ever lived by myself, let alone, the first time I’ve been financially independent.

I’m looking forward to what lies ahead.
